The Hunger Games

Book Cover Version 2014

So tell me, you like dystopian don't you? And you've heard of this one before too, huh?

How do you feel about 24 children, being thrown into an arena and forced to kill or be killed for the amusement of the more powerful?

Sick, I know.

But that's exactly what happens in the first of The Hunger Games Trilogy, wisely called- The Hunger Games.

Now wait, before we continue on to my awesome opinion on this, I'd like to share with you the Treaty (of Treason). Because I can. Nah, just kidding. Because it's awesome.

"In penance for their uprising, each district shall offer up a male and a female between the ages of 12 and 18 at a public reaping. These tributes shall be delivered to the Capitol. And then transferred into a public arena, where they will fight to the death until a lone victor remains. Henceforth and forevermore this pageant shall be known as The Hunger Games."

Isn't that good? I know I loved it. Now, this part is from the movie as in the book it doesn't actually quote it but I really doubt Suzanne would let others stick their spoon in and create something like that- such a key part in this story. So now that we've done that, let me continue.

This is a wonderful story. Katniss is one of the weirdest characters I've had the fortune to meet. Her head functions so differently from mine that I found it vastly entertaining. Oddly enough, she is also one with whom I can really relate too. And Peeta, well how can I not love him? He's too kind to be hated and he bakes bread. I love bread.

The thing about this, is that we're not too far off. This is supposed to be fiction but it's incredibly close to reality and I think that's why so many people like it. Not because it's "in style" or because of the supposed love triangle that transpires (although some do- narrow minded people), but because it shows the will of a person to survive, the selfishness of any Government and the everlasting hope even when the odds aren't in our favor.

So if you like reading about the underdogs succeeding, a touch of fake romance and murder- than this one's is exactly for you.
