The DUFF

The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend
Book cover 2010

So tell me, were you aware that this is going to be a movie? Are you now aware of what DUFF means?

Designated ugly fat friend.

Kinda harsh, isn't it? Well that's what it is. And this story is fantastic and completely relatable. It's real. As simple as that.

So read more so I can tell you fully my opinion on this one.

We all feel like a DUFF at some point, it's unavoidable. You always have that one friend who you see as perfect and it makes you feel a little less prettier yourself. It's something we all can relate to. And here we follow the story of a teenage girl who could be anyone. Well, I know I felt completely connected to her. With her eye rolling, sarcasm and sometimes sadistic comments.

I found out about the book by the movie trailer. I admit it. And I'm really grateful I did because the book is always better. And this time not just because it has more details or whatever but because the plot is different. You'll see what I mean if you watch the movie trailer as it's still not in cinema, and if you read the book.

I just really enjoyed it. All of it. Some parts were a bit er, PG 13, to say it like that but it was acceptable. I became friends with the characters so easily. And though this wasn't a fantasy nor sci-fi I loved it and that's why I recommend it to you now. Without telling you much of the story itself.

But basically, if you enjoy teenage drama, high school stories and sarcastic-ocassionally-mean girls (like me) then this one is for you.
