Unleashed

Unleashed Book Cover

So tell me, remember a million years ago when I read Uninvited and did my review here? Me neither, because it did not happen. I mean I did read it, just not reviewed it. It was during those times where I had graduated in procrastination and did nothing expect read a little.

Anyways, I eventually decided to finish reading this duology by Sophie Jordan and here, I present to you my thoughts on the second and last book - Unleashed.

Now, I wasn't the biggest Uninvited fan okay? It was just not entirely my type. The whole I-have-the-perfect-life-wait-oh-no-my-life-is-ruined-help-I'm-drowing-because-I-am-aparently-incompotent-when-I-get-kicked-out-of-my-stupid-false-little-bubble thing just bothers me a tad. Though maybe you could tell already. You see, I know how life works. I'm not good at it but I know how it is. And due to the coldness with which my mother treated me (I appreciate it, no really) I tend to treat others the same way. Oh, your boyfriend is an idiot and your best friend a backstabbing bitch female dog? Too bad, suck it up and forget them. So we began Unleashed and she was constantly whining, my tolerance level was low. I was not liking it but I had to know how it ended, simply because. So I kept going and well, I'm still not entirely sure if I liked it or not.

As I said, she was whining a lot, and I understand she'd gone through a lot of things but for Josh's sake, stop. (Who's Josh? No one, I'm just trying not to use God's name in vain anymore.) They were trying to escape to Mexico (*scoff* Really?) but the plan did not work out as Davy was shot in the shoulder. I was glad with this turn in all honesty, as to all the things it lead towards. To start, new characters. The other three weren't really interesting or charismatic so I had no real interest for them. Also, I couldn't see how the plot would progress if they fled to Mexico and stayed there. It would have been boring to read about, not worth writing a second book. So, she gets shot, we get left behind, and a stranger finds us almost dead.

Hold on, I'm dragging this out too much. Okay so. Davy finds another dude who I actually kind of liked but was not sure if to trust until literally the very end. I have trust issues now thanks to Red Queen. There we find out that The Resistance was doing their job exactly how it was apparently supposed to be done as it worked and the rest, is history. I mean, technically it's the future but you get what I mean.

The ending I think, is something I should definitely talk about. To start, I was expecting a war as is logical. It is what usually happens in this sort of book but I am quite happy on how it actually turned out instead. Sure, it's almost unrealistically optimistic but you never know. Besides, the beauty of books is that you get to decide how things turn out, how civilized and how chaotic. If Sophie Jordan saw her dystopian world ending in a treaty, then so be it. Also, the fact that Davy did't have a key part in that happening is something I can respect yet not entirely the best path to my belief. It is because the most dangerous and exciting thing happen to a person that make them the main characters not vice versa.

So all in all, I think it was okay. It was definitely not a favorite for which I am very sorry, but not so much that I regret reading it. Being honest here, a recurrent thought was actually, 'been there, done that' but that is beside the concluding point. At the end, I enjoyed Davy and I grew quite proud of her character development. She fought back, and I think that was probably one of the best lessons I too have learned.

So maybe I didn't get an epic final battle with a lot of people dying, I'm cool with that. Regarding whether to read the book or not? Well, I'll leave that completely to your decision. I have already told you my take on it, if you wish go on and discover your own.
